Ladies Group

Alternate Mondays at 2.00 PM

Ladies Group began over 55 years ago as a group for all women from the Church, those from other churches and other ladies of the town.

A typical meeting begins with a hymn and a reading or poem. An invited speaker then entertains the group for about 40-45 minutes, after which another hymn or song is shared and then it is time for a chat over tea and biscuits.

The speakers cover a wide variety of topics from music to holiday destinations and trips abroad to local history and the natural world.

Ladies Group also share together socially through a Summer Fayre and celebration meals throughout the year. They also share a number of  events together with the Ladies Group of Helsby Methodist Church. Ladies Group performs a great service to the Church and the community by raising money for charity and sometimes helping at Church events. Each year a charity is chosen and they raise money throughout the year.

Each year an organising committee is appointed and this year the Group Secretary is Mrs. Anne Maddams.
New people often join our group and are always welcome.

At each meeting there is time for friendship, fellowship and fun. Below are other photos showing Ladies Group through the years.

ALL LADIES ARE MOST WELCOME.

Frodsham Methodist Church Ladies Group, 2011
Celebrating the first fifty years...

The very first meeting of the Young Wives Fellowship was held at the Lecture Hall at Trinity Methodist Church, Frodsham, on the 7th February, 1961.

This inaugural meeting was attended by the then Minister Reverend Cowell, his wife Mrs Cowell, and a Mrs Worrall.

The first elected committee consisted of:-

President - Mrs Davis
Vice Presidents - Mrs Taylor; Mrs Jackson
Secretary - Mrs Land
Treasurer - Mrs Dorsett
Pianist - Mrs Pooley
Sick Visitors - Mrs Martin; Mrs Ellison
Birthday Secretary - Mrs Jackson

It was suggested that in order to run concurrently with the Methodist year, the committee should serve for six months and the next AGM meeting would be in September, 1961.

Meetings started by singing a hymn, known as the Young Wives’ Hymn.  Each member paid 6d, which was 3d for tea and biscuits, and 3d for the flower fund.

The group had talks and outings, and later they decided to have handicraft, knitting and modern dancing.  It was also suggested to have a sales table to sell children’s clothing, all articles to be priced by the seller.  They gave 2p in every shilling to the Young Wives Fund.

By September 1964 the membership was twenty-five and they were very busy ladies!

In July 1977 Trinity Young Wives changed their name to Trinity Ladies Group. Because of the building work at Trinity Church in July 1978, the meetings were held at the Parish Church Hall returning to Trinity on 4th September 1979.

In June 1980 it was decided to hold the meetings on the first and third Monday evenings each month. The AGM is now held in June each year. Members wanting an afternoon meeting join the Women’s Fellowship which meet on a Wednesday afternoon.

In the year 2000 meetings were held a Main Street chapel for a short while, returning to Frodsham Methodist Church in 2001, with meetings taking place from 7.30 until 9 PM.

The Ladies Group has supported many charities over the years including:-

Princes’ Trust
The British Heart Foundation
The Paper Chase Trust
The Mission Aviation Fellowship
The Sparkling Star Appeal
Claire House Children’s Hospice
Hope House Children’s Hospice
Air Ambulance North West

Today there are over 40 members; there are still speakers and outings. New faces are often welcomed to the Group and are always welcome.
