Monday 22nd December was the first weekday of the school holidays - but not at Frodsham Methodist Church, where there was an afternoon holiday club! There was making and baking gingerbread men, stars and other strange shapes; playing Nativity bingo; enjoying the mild weather outdoors; making craft items such as a mobile hanging nativity scene; and preparing ornages for the Christingle service at 5.30pm. After a bring and share tea, around 40 people gathered together for the Christingle Service in the church, and a collection was taken for the work of The Childrens Society. A week earlier than in previous years, eight families from 0930live! braved the Friday night traffic to head to a campsite in Newborough, Anglesea. Crossing the Menai bridge at crawling pace, we were treated to our first stunning view of the evening sun reflecting off the water. We pitched our assortment of tents, camper vans and caravans on the site and settled down on the first night under a large, yellow full moon. The campsite was near to a forest that led down to a large sandy beach, about 30 mins walk away – perfect for exercising the various dogs and children we had with us. The children bonded brilliantly, and there was an almost constant football game being played at the site (mainly dads, lads, Georgina and Ellie). Andrea organised kite making and many of these were taken down to the beach to be flown in the stiff breeze once the tide had gone out later on Saturday. Everyone went to bed on Saturday night smelling of barbeques and the fried onions kindly prepared and shared by Denise and Caroline! On the Sunday morning we had a short worship time together where we focussed on the theme of ‘Creation’ and talked about the evidence of God’s hand on the things and sights we had experienced during the weekend. Andrea retold the story of Creation and we were treated to some excellent drama from Emily and the Anstice family. It was really good to take some time out of busy lives to spend it together with none of the usual time pressures, getting to know each other a bit better. It was also good to meet up with some of the other campers on the site – and their dogs! Pippa Jacobson July 2014 The first 4all service is on Sunday 1st December. We are hoping to form an 4all Worship Group made up of people from both the 0930 Live! congregation and the 10.45 congregation. If you can play an instrument (whatever standard), or can sing, or can operate the sound desk, please let either Andrew Ellams or Alan Carter know as we would love to involve you. The first practise is on Thursday 14th November at Church at 7.45pm, for about an hour. Please let Andrew or Alan know if you have any queries. Would you like to look after the Holy Family for a night in the weeks leading up to Christmas? We'd love to offer this to as many people as possible. For more information, e-mail us at enquiries@frodshammethodist.org. On Friday June 21st Rev Denise was spotted in her front drive looking muddy and wet. What was she up to? Well, she was cleaning her drive in preparation for the Afternoon Tea and Garden Trail. She raced off to mow the grass just in time just in time for four gazebos to be erected on her lawns. Saturday morning saw a steady stream of chairs, tables; scones and cakes arrive at the Manse. The forecast was poor and the sky was cloudy. Would all this preparation be in vain? Happily, as you can see from the photos, the sun shone, the scones and strawberries were eaten and the garden trail was walked by many people of all ages. Some of the clues had us puzzled but Kathleen and Anne had produced an excellent trail and the gardens were lovely. We visited the garden of a couple of alpine enthusiasts, enjoyed a peaceful oasis along the main road and I’m still wondering how many eggs a certain hen had laid in another garden! Congratulations to Pam for solving most clues. Many thanks to everyone involved in making this such a successful event. Ros Caldwell To view a picture of each garden plus the clue for that garden, you can view a PowerPoint document here kindly put together by Patricia Barnard, one of the Church Stewards:
The Outreach Team are planning an Afternoon Tea and Garden Trail for Saturday 22nd June and we are looking for gardens to visit. Please consider offering your garden for this event – big gardens, small gardens, gardens with weeds and gardens without weeds will be most welcome. Walkers will only be spending a few minutes in each garden while they look around and solve the clue on their way to their final destination – tea at the Manse.
Kathleen and Anne have offered to plan the route and think of the clues. They will try to include all the gardens in the trail if possible. Please get in touch with one of the stewards to offer your garden or for more information about what promises to be a fun event...as long as the weather is good! Many thanks, Ros Caldwell Yesterday afternoon, Frodsham Methodist Church Hall was full with over eighty people of all ages enjoying pancakes, in some cases a lot of pancakes! Over 20 pints of milk were used to make all the pancake batter required. All the usual toppings were available ranging from the traditional lemon juice and sugar to bananas and cream and maple syrup and chocolate sauce. It was wonderful to see so many people making full use of the building with lots of families in the Church Hall, pool and table tennis tables in use, football games outside and teenagers jamming in Church. Well done to everyone in the kitchen who churned out the hundreds of pancakes! Have you always wondered about going, or heard others talking about it and not had a clue what they were talking about?
Greenbelt is a Christian Arts Festival that has run since 1973. It is held Friday 23rd – Monday 26th August at Cheltenham Racecourse with about 20,000 people camping onsite, and over 3-4000 more staying in local accommodation. Would you like to go as part of a church group to experience it this year? There are activities, seminars, worship streams and events for all ages to find something to engage with. Costs vary depending upon your circumstances – but include your entry tickets for the whole weekend, and the camping facilities on site. Revd Denise has been for many years and would be pleased to chat to anyone interested in attending this year, or finding out more information. Look at www.greenbelt.org.uk for more information. Please note, due to the snow and the uncertainty of more to come, there is no Messy Church tonight, Friday 18th January, 2013. See you next month or for 0930live! on Sunday 27th January. Any queries, contact Andrea Ellams, Young Families Worker, on 07749877823. An Exhibition of Art, Craft and Photography opened on Friday 30th November running until Sunday 1st December at Frodsham Methodist Church.
The event was organised by Alun Evans, a well known local artist himself, and attracted over 220 entries from over 80 exhibitors from as far afield as Warrington, Chester and Northwich. Although most of the exhibitors were amateur artists, the standard of entries in both artistic skill and presentation was very high. Entries included Paintings in oils, watercolour and mixed media, Photographs as well as Stitchcraft, Patchwork and Quilting. Viewing the exhibition was a feast of colour, texture and form to stimulate the senses and lift the spirits. The exhibition was opened at 2pm on Friday when our Minister, Rev'd. Denise Harding, welcomed Weaver Vale M.P. Graham Evans who, after a short address in which he said he felt honoured to be asked, declared the event formally open. He then handed over to a group of children from Frodsham C. of E. Primary School who, under the direction of their teacher, Mrs Corradine, entertained us with singing and mime. It was a pleasure to listen to the children's singing talents amid the wonderful artistic skills on display around us. Trevor Vernon This Sunday, 25th November, is our Gift Service, where we are collecting new or good condition toys and gifts for Save the Family, the Chester-based charity working with families in need of a home. Manor House Primary School, Frodsham, have already done a tremendous job collecting lots of gifts which will be brought to 0930 Live! this Sunday. Well done! How are we doing with the Nativity? If you would like to knit some sheep, the pattern is in the Church Hall. If you would like some help sewing the figures up then I will be at Church on Tuesday 6th November, in the small hall, from 7pm-8.30pm. Andrea Ellams During the 0930 Live! service on Sunday 14th October, we presented the Junior Mission for All (JMA) Medals and Certificates to our young collectors who between them and collected £179-56p. Well Done! During the 10.45am service, led by Teleri Parry, we presented certificates to our adult collectors; they had raised £362-23p. We thanked them for their generosity and Teleri led us in prayer for JMA. Pat Worrall JMA Secretary Many of the groups in Frodsham have come together and are hosting an open afternoon from 2.30-5pm for families to come along and see what Frodsham has to offer children and young people, when and where these groups meet and how they or any adult can get involved. There will be demonstrations and stalls from the different groups. Frodsham Methodist Church will be taking part with crafts to make and lots of information to take away, so why not come along what is on offer for you. If you are not able to make it, but want more information on what happens at Frodsham Methodist Church, contact our Minister, Rev'd. Denise Harding, on denise.harding@frodshammethodist.org, or our Young Families Worker, Andrea Ellams, on andrea.ellams@frodshammethodist.org. Several people had asked if Messy Church could be moved to a different night in the week to make it easier for them to get there, but after a very busy Messy Church last week, it has been decided to keep it on the third Friday in the month at 5.15pm. As ever, all are most welcome to come along and give this fun activity a try. We have lots of crafts in the Church Hall followed by tea together (usually something like pasta or baked potatoes) then a short act of worship before finishing with cakes and tea in the Church Hall. If you want to know more, get in touch with Andrea Ellams, our Young Families Worker, by e-mail at andrea.ellams@frodshammethodist.org.
