Fun making Christingles this afternoon and we nearly managed to finish all the cakes and sandwiches at the afternoon tea! Followed by Worship exploring the meaning of the various elements of the Christingle.

The Lord Leslie Griffiths. Leslie Griffiths, a former President of the Methodist Conference and currently the Minister at Wesley's Chapel in London, is a well-known Methodist voice and those from the churches in and around Cheshire may appreciate this opportunity to hear him, as well as to join with others in celebrating our Christian unity.

The performance enacted the day to day reality of the tragedy facing individuals across the world by Human Trafficking. £800 was raised through this evening and this has been forwarded to front-line charities tackling this situation.
The evening was sponsored by the Chester Diocese of the Church of England and Frodsham Churches Together. Refreshments were donated by our local Supermarket, Morrisons, who have kindly agreed to further support the fundraising by allowing Carol Singing at the Store in December. All donations will go to the Salvation Army UK fund for Trafficked Victims. Stephen Pickett A few photos from our fantastic Meet the Craft Maker 2015. Wonderful to see so many friends joining us. Hope everyone got their Christmas presents sorted! Dear Friends,
Please find below the new strategy for our Church, which we are launching today. This is an exciting document which sets out the new vision and mission statement for our Church, and how we hope to deliver it over the next five years. Please take time to carefully read it and let Mr. John Holmes, Mr. Alan Carter or any of the Leadership Team know if you have any queries or want more information. Please use the sign up sheet in the Church Hall, or e-mail enquiries@frodshammethodist.org, if you would like to:-
Many thanks, The Leadership Team
A small shoebox can have a big impact. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal. At our Gift service on the 15th November 2015, we will be dedicating Christmas Shoe Boxes which will be transported to children around the world. Take a look on the Operation Christmas Child Samaritan's Purse website for details about what you can put in a shoe box. You can help in different ways:- 1) Finding a shoe box. 2) Collecting items to fill a box and either fill one yourself or bring items to Church to fill boxes together. 3) Use the knitting patterns on the website to make something for the boxes. 4) Donate £3. Each box needs £3 to help with transporting costs. 5) Come on Wednesday 4th November at 3.30pm and Thursday 12th November at 7pm to help decorate and fill boxes. A knit and natter group is being organised for alternative Monday afternoon’s starting at 2.30 pm. We could occasionally include crafts, e.g. cards, crochet, flower arranging or anything else that someone might have the expertise and be happy to show us. We are hoping to start as soon as possible so if you are interested can you please let Patricia Barnard or Susan Fairbanks (enquiries@frodshammethodist.org) know so we have an idea of numbers.
More than 120 people attended Frodsham Methodist Church on Kingsley Road in Frodsham for the Church's first ever hosting of a General Election Hustings. It also happened to be the last hustings event in the Weaver Vale Constituency before the election on 7th May. Rev'd. Denise Harding chaired the proceedings, whilst questions tabled from the people present were sifted and sorted by friends from the local churches, and then were asked of all the candidates. These focused on local, national and international issues. All six of the candidates were present for all of the proceedings on the evening. The candidates responded well to being given no advance warning of the questions - which ranged in topic from health to tolling the Mersey bridges, from 'the delight or deliverance of leaving the EU' to 'when food banks will no longer be needed', from tax and the environment to finally - 'what are you most passionate about?', the candidates answered well, and were respectful of each other. The undisputed star of the evening though, was someone not even old enough to vote - Esme Anstice from Frodsham Manor House Primary School - who asked a question about the NHS. She received a resounding applause from the whole audience, including the panel of candidates, for even being there, and for the boldness of being able to ask her question, which was: "My class have been talking about what should be the most important aim for the new government. We voted for the National Health Service. What would your party do for the NHS?" Rev'd. Denise concluded the proceedings by inviting those present to contribute towards the Christian Aid DEC Nepal Appeal to help those affected by the earthquake a week ago, and then shared some words from the founding father of Methodism, John Wesley, as a hopeful manifesto for us all: Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can. Were you there when the Beatles played at the Mersey View or when Seb Coe took part in the Hill Race? Were you a Rose Queen or did you take part in the Carnival Parade? Do you remember the Jubilee street parties or sliding down the Helter Skelter?
If you have any photographs or memorabilia from any of these or other local events then please get in touch. We are planning to hold a special ‘Harvest of Memories’. This event will be in the church hall on Saturday 26th September, and will form part of our Harvest Festival weekend. There will be displays of items (and hopefully music) that we hope will trigger memories that people can chat about over a cup of tea and cake. We will also have information about local groups and organisations that offer support and advice for people suffering from dementia and their carers. More information will follow in the next magazine but if you are interest in being involved in this event please let either Liz Holmes, Carolyn Frayne or Marg Jacks know. We will begin our 2015 Lent Course by watching the film The Way on Saturday 21st February at 7pm (bring your own drinks/sweets), in Church. Please feel free to come along to the film night even if you don't wish to join in the Lent Course - all are welcome.
This will then be followed by 5 sessions following the course which reflects on the film, on the following dates: Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm in the Quiet Room: 24th February 17th March 3rd March 24th March (not meeting on 10th March) 31st March Information about the film: THE WAY is a powerful and inspirational story about family, friends and the challenges we face while navigating this ever-changing and complicated world. Martin Sheen plays Tom, an irascible American doctor who comes to France to deal with the tragic loss of his son (played by Emilio Estevez). Rather than return home, Tom decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage "The Way of St. James" to honour his son's desire to finish the journey. What Tom doesn't plan on is the profound impact this trip will have on him. Through unexpected and often amusing experiences along "The Way," Tom discovers the difference between "the life we live and the life we choose.” The story is based on the well known Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. For Christmas Day 2014, Rev'd. Denise Harding challenged the congregation to come in their most Christmassy clothing. Here a few of the success stories!
A week earlier than in previous years, eight families from 0930live! braved the Friday night traffic to head to a campsite in Newborough, Anglesea. Crossing the Menai bridge at crawling pace, we were treated to our first stunning view of the evening sun reflecting off the water. We pitched our assortment of tents, camper vans and caravans on the site and settled down on the first night under a large, yellow full moon. The campsite was near to a forest that led down to a large sandy beach, about 30 mins walk away – perfect for exercising the various dogs and children we had with us. The children bonded brilliantly, and there was an almost constant football game being played at the site (mainly dads, lads, Georgina and Ellie). Andrea organised kite making and many of these were taken down to the beach to be flown in the stiff breeze once the tide had gone out later on Saturday. Everyone went to bed on Saturday night smelling of barbeques and the fried onions kindly prepared and shared by Denise and Caroline! On the Sunday morning we had a short worship time together where we focussed on the theme of ‘Creation’ and talked about the evidence of God’s hand on the things and sights we had experienced during the weekend. Andrea retold the story of Creation and we were treated to some excellent drama from Emily and the Anstice family. It was really good to take some time out of busy lives to spend it together with none of the usual time pressures, getting to know each other a bit better. It was also good to meet up with some of the other campers on the site – and their dogs! Pippa Jacobson July 2014 |
