The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an international event which takes place every year on the same dates in January. Churches in different countries are invited to prepare the materials for use throughout the week, and recently Christian Aid has also got involved in suggesting actions as well as prayer.
In Frodsham we call this week ‘Christians in Frodsham Praying Together’. We are fortunate that for a number of years the churches here have generally worked very well together, notably over such things as the Churches Together newsletter which goes to every house in the town three times a year; Christmas and Easter Journeys for local primary school children; Fun Days in Castle Park and the ecumenical service at St Laurence on the last Sunday in the year. The following events will take place during the Prayer Week: Sunday 19th January, 10.45am: Covenant Service at Frodsham Methodist Church, to which all are invited; followed by lunch at 12.30pm Tuesday 21st January: Frodsham Methodist Church open for prayer, with said prayers on the half-hour from 10am to 12noon, followed by soup lunch Wednesday 22nd January, 7.30pm: combined service at St Luke’s Roman Catholic Church, preacher Rev'd. Denise Harding, followed by refreshments Thursday 23rd January: Main Street Community Church Prayer Journey during the day Friday 24th January: Prayer time at St Laurence, followed by tea This is a very special time of sharing with our fellow Christians in Frodsham. Do support as many events as you are able. Liz Holmes Christmas Journey is celebrating its 10th year in Frodsham. Next week, around four hundred Year 2 children from 15 local primary schools will visit Main Street Community Church to take part in this multi-media event.
There will be one Journey open to the public on Saturday 7th December at 10.00 am. The journey is free, lasts an hour and is suitable for school- aged children who must be accompanied by an adult. Places are limited and can be booked on 01928 733208. Following this, the Church will be open from 11am -2pm for a self-guided Prayer Walk around the scenes of Christmas Journey. Anyone is welcome to drop in to church for a time of reflection and peace as we look forward to the coming of Jesus at Christmas. The Toddler Group have set up a collection point in the Church Hall for people to donate items of food, which will be taken to the Runcorn Foodbank. There will be a list on the notice board of the food required by the Foodbank. Please help if you can.
More details about the Runcorn Foodbank can be found here. During December there will be a small "tree" in the foyer and we are asking for your help to decorate it with pairs of new socks. The ladies' and children's socks will be donated to "Save the Family" and the men's socks to "Chester Aid for the Homeless". Please help to cheer up someone in need this Christmas with your gifts.
You can find more about Save the Family here, and Chester Aid for the Homeless here. ![]() On the Sunday 17th and Sunday 24th November we will be holding retiring collections at all services, which will go directly to help those suffering as a result of Typhoon Haiyan. These monies will be directed through our international aid charity--MRDF--the Methodist Relief and Development Fund. If people would like to gift aid their donation this can be done by using an envelope to make the donation, as long as the person donating completes and inserts Gift Aid form into the envelope. Please see a steward for the form and envelope. You can find more information about MRDF here. ![]() The first 4all service is on Sunday 1st December. We are hoping to form an 4all Worship Group made up of people from both the 0930 Live! congregation and the 10.45 congregation. If you can play an instrument (whatever standard), or can sing, or can operate the sound desk, please let either Andrew Ellams or Alan Carter know as we would love to involve you. The first practise is on Thursday 14th November at Church at 7.45pm, for about an hour. Please let Andrew or Alan know if you have any queries. We have a box of poppies and a collection box in the Church Hall for those who wish to donate to this charity.
