Chester and Stoke-on-Trent District Rally led by The President, Rev'd. Steve Wild, and the Vice-President, Dr. Jill Barber, of the Methodist Conference
Longton Methodist Central Hall, Stoke-on-Trent, ST3 2JH On Sunday 13th March 2016 at 6.30 pm Light refreshments from 4.30 pm. Free parking at rear of church adjacent to Tesco, Longton At the last Third Sunday discussion, as part of a session for “taking up” things for Lent, the group discussed spending an evening in Holy Week reading the whole of St Mark’s Gospel as a continuous narrative of the life of Jesus, and as a way of giving thanks for the whole life and teaching of Jesus as prelude to the Easter weekend events following.
The Group invites you, therefore, to join them for a reading in the Quiet Room on Tuesday 22nd March 7.00pm to 9.00 pm Reading Chapters 1 to 14 of St Marks Gospel up to the point of the Last Supper. The evening would thus dovetail into the Maundy Thursday service currently being planned for later in the week which normally covers the arrest and crucifixion of Jesus. The intention is to treat the evening as a book reading following the continuous story as it unfolds, and enabling us to experience each section of the story in its context, and as part of the whole life and ministry of Jesus’ in the sequence that Mark records it. Two breaks in the reading would provide a short time for coffee and cakes. Preferably 14 readers would take a chapter each (or double up as necessary). Do come and join us and let John Holmes or Patricia Barnard know if you are willing to read a chapter (and if you eat cake!!). |
