The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an international event which takes place every year on the same dates in January. Churches in different countries are invited to prepare the materials for use throughout the week, and recently Christian Aid has also got involved in suggesting actions as well as prayer.
In Frodsham we call this week ‘Christians in Frodsham Praying Together’. We are fortunate that for a number of years the churches here have generally worked very well together, notably over such things as the Churches Together newsletter which goes to every house in the town three times a year; Christmas and Easter Journeys for local primary school children; Fun Days in Castle Park and the ecumenical service at St Laurence on the last Sunday in the year. The following events will take place during the Prayer Week: Sunday 19th January, 10.45am: Covenant Service at Frodsham Methodist Church, to which all are invited; followed by lunch at 12.30pm Tuesday 21st January: Frodsham Methodist Church open for prayer, with said prayers on the half-hour from 10am to 12noon, followed by soup lunch Wednesday 22nd January, 7.30pm: combined service at St Luke’s Roman Catholic Church, preacher Rev'd. Denise Harding, followed by refreshments Thursday 23rd January: Main Street Community Church Prayer Journey during the day Friday 24th January: Prayer time at St Laurence, followed by tea This is a very special time of sharing with our fellow Christians in Frodsham. Do support as many events as you are able. Liz Holmes The first 4all service is on Sunday 1st December. We are hoping to form an 4all Worship Group made up of people from both the 0930 Live! congregation and the 10.45 congregation. If you can play an instrument (whatever standard), or can sing, or can operate the sound desk, please let either Andrew Ellams or Alan Carter know as we would love to involve you. The first practise is on Thursday 14th November at Church at 7.45pm, for about an hour. Please let Andrew or Alan know if you have any queries. Twelve people from Church last Saturday walked to Hilbre Island for Christian Aid. We all had a great time and didn't get wet. It was suggested that we should get together for a walk more often. Perhaps you would like to organise such an event? Have a chat with Andrea if you are interested.
The Stitching Class Annual Exhibition on Thursday 19th September was an outstanding success. Everyone who came along to see the beautiful stitching work thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. A total of £300 was raised in aid of the Rainbow Club. Many thanks to all who supported us. Elizabeth Hearn Would you like to look after the Holy Family for a night in the weeks leading up to Christmas? We'd love to offer this to as many people as possible. For more information, e-mail us at enquiries@frodshammethodist.org. On Friday June 21st Rev Denise was spotted in her front drive looking muddy and wet. What was she up to? Well, she was cleaning her drive in preparation for the Afternoon Tea and Garden Trail. She raced off to mow the grass just in time just in time for four gazebos to be erected on her lawns. Saturday morning saw a steady stream of chairs, tables; scones and cakes arrive at the Manse. The forecast was poor and the sky was cloudy. Would all this preparation be in vain? Happily, as you can see from the photos, the sun shone, the scones and strawberries were eaten and the garden trail was walked by many people of all ages. Some of the clues had us puzzled but Kathleen and Anne had produced an excellent trail and the gardens were lovely. We visited the garden of a couple of alpine enthusiasts, enjoyed a peaceful oasis along the main road and I’m still wondering how many eggs a certain hen had laid in another garden! Congratulations to Pam for solving most clues. Many thanks to everyone involved in making this such a successful event. Ros Caldwell To view a picture of each garden plus the clue for that garden, you can view a PowerPoint document here kindly put together by Patricia Barnard, one of the Church Stewards:
Thanks to all who came along to support Ladies Group Summer Fair. A grand total of £800 was raised at this event, all of which will be sent to charity.
Ten people joined me as we explored being Amazed by God, and pondered on how that would make an impact in our lives as we considered in response how amazing we each are to God. Pippa and Gary Jacobson kindly offered their home for the day, plus the beautiful grounds. It is hoped to hold Quiet days regularly in the future. If anyone would be interested in joining us in the future, please get in touch with Rev'd. Denise. Around sixty friends shared worship and fellowship together on Tuesday last. Thank you to all those who helped make this a most enjoyable afternoon.
The Outreach Team are planning an Afternoon Tea and Garden Trail for Saturday 22nd June and we are looking for gardens to visit. Please consider offering your garden for this event – big gardens, small gardens, gardens with weeds and gardens without weeds will be most welcome. Walkers will only be spending a few minutes in each garden while they look around and solve the clue on their way to their final destination – tea at the Manse.
Kathleen and Anne have offered to plan the route and think of the clues. They will try to include all the gardens in the trail if possible. Please get in touch with one of the stewards to offer your garden or for more information about what promises to be a fun event...as long as the weather is good! Many thanks, Ros Caldwell
Warmest Congratulations to Mrs Win Edwards who celebrated her 90th birthday on Saturday 16th February, 2013. Win is pictured on her special day with Rev'd. Denise Harding and friends Lilian Grundy and Doris Cairns. Win spent the afternoon celebrating with her family, followed by a party tea with friends and relatives. Yesterday afternoon, Frodsham Methodist Church Hall was full with over eighty people of all ages enjoying pancakes, in some cases a lot of pancakes! Over 20 pints of milk were used to make all the pancake batter required. All the usual toppings were available ranging from the traditional lemon juice and sugar to bananas and cream and maple syrup and chocolate sauce. It was wonderful to see so many people making full use of the building with lots of families in the Church Hall, pool and table tennis tables in use, football games outside and teenagers jamming in Church. Well done to everyone in the kitchen who churned out the hundreds of pancakes! Have you always wondered about going, or heard others talking about it and not had a clue what they were talking about?
Greenbelt is a Christian Arts Festival that has run since 1973. It is held Friday 23rd – Monday 26th August at Cheltenham Racecourse with about 20,000 people camping onsite, and over 3-4000 more staying in local accommodation. Would you like to go as part of a church group to experience it this year? There are activities, seminars, worship streams and events for all ages to find something to engage with. Costs vary depending upon your circumstances – but include your entry tickets for the whole weekend, and the camping facilities on site. Revd Denise has been for many years and would be pleased to chat to anyone interested in attending this year, or finding out more information. Look at www.greenbelt.org.uk for more information.
